Assumption educators are committed to providing students with an engaging curriculum in a nurturing environment. They instill excitement for the discovery of knowledge while motivating students to reach individual goals and explore their unique strengths and talents.
The Assumption curriculum is highlighted by cross-curricular collaboration and STREAM-focused integration. Whether it be student-created podcasts that showcase student-written poetry or the creation of self-portraits in partnership with a unit on Frida Kahlo, our faculty members consistently look for opportunities to work together to extend student learning and deepen student engagement.
Assumption offers courses in the traditional core areas of study such as language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and world languages. Physical education, religion, visual art, drama, music, and technology are also offered as part of the curriculum.
Our curriculum is based on the state's curriculum standards called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Teachers use these objectives to guide them in their overall planning and determine the proper sequencing and type of instruction for each objective. Student assessment for each objective is used to determine each student's mastery and is what is reflected through the school's grading system. Teachers use textbooks and other instructional materials to support the mastery of curriculum objectives.
Three times per year we measure our student's academic growth with the NWEA MAP Growth Assessments. These assessments are given to all students in grades K-8 in the Archdiocese.
The assessments will compare a student’s scores with grade-level peers on the national and state levels, provide information for future instruction and curriculum planning, and provide a broad picture of our school's performance.
Assumption Catholic School is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB ED) under the governance of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Our school will maintain accreditation status through TCCB ED in compliance with their scheduled accreditation cycle, requirements, and standards.
